Greater Sudbury Municipal Airport (IATA: GSM, ICAO: CGSM) is the main airport serving Sudbury, Ontario.

History[]

The airport opened in 1998 after local citizens saw use for an international airport. The airport was to have 6 gates, but only was built with 3. In 2003, Air Sudbury operated out of the airport until it's demise in 2005. In 2016, the airport owner and operator, Ontario Airport Systems, approved the expansion. The airport will now have 5 gates, a larger ticketing area, and a lounge. In December 2016, Douglas Denney, the Vice-President of Growth at OAS announced that the airport expansion will start on February 20, 2017. It will also include a renovation of the existing airport. On March 18, 2017, Denney announced that the expansion and renovation will be complete by April 1, 2017. He was also able to confirm that Westjet would be starting 1x daily service to Calgary and 1x daily service to Toronto (Pearson). The expansion/renovation was completed on April 24, following some delay. The expanded area was opened on May 1.
